Gardenia Augusta Aimee Yoshiba
There are about 180 species of Gardenia but they all boast evergreen leaves and sweet strong perfume produced by white to cream flowers.
Gardenia Augusta Aimee Yoshiba has the grandest name we’ve heard of – but she can live up to this fabulous title because those blooms are out-of-this-world. Large, double white flowers appear in the warmer months contrasting with the deep evergreen shiny foliage.
If you love flowers this is the gardenia for you as it’s a prolific bloomer. Pop her in the border or a container near a window so that fruity perfume can fill your home.
This beauty loves sun to filtered sun and slightly acid soils, but if the leaves start to yellow it means the soil is deficient in minerals that gardenias need.
It’s a simple fix of applying Epsom salts or chelated iron onto the roots. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and those deep glossy green tones will soon return.
